2. Radio, Television. a vacuum tube or other device in a receiving set that helps in the change of radio waves into sound waves by removing the carrier waves from the signal sent out by the microphone; demodulator.
3. a) a simple, portable galvanometer for indicating the flow of a current of electricity, but not its strength. b) any device used to determine the presence of electric waves, such as a coherer in a radio receiving set.
4. a device for causing the diaphragm of a telephone receiver to vibrate when a high-frequency current passes through.
5. a low-water indicator for a boiler.
6. Obsolete. an informer; accuser.
